Away, Into the Gilded Dark

RVRND is a Florida-based musical project built at the collision of the sacred, the liminal, and the deeply human — where Southern Gothic myth meets ancient religious tradition, where the mangrove and sand give way to cathedral, and the human soul takes form in the shadow of a blaze.

Dust to dust... but Hell's being alone.

Shaped by the warmth of the sun and the depth of the swamp — RVRND asks the oldest questions about why we are here, what we owe one another, and what shapes us into who we are.

RVRND will brave the darkness and grasp at the light, and you are most welcome here...

The Words

Lyrics

The Witch of Alachua

She got them blue eyes staring Short hair with a touch a satin Smooth voice it's a lie I reckon And she is here to take your soul Long legs and wicked smile Drove south for a little while Got out at the 0 mile Eyes meet, and I knew I was gone. I don't know what you've been told, but I heard something strange. That a witch from Alachua comin' out the mangroves could kill you with her gaze From Miami-Dade to Tallahassee, the sand ain't what it seems That witch from Alachua, coming out the mangroves will take from you, everything. Don't run she'll hear you going Sit tight don't stress you'll blow it You're better off to show that you won't ever walk away I hope to God I make it I'm too young to die I'm praying One glance gave shallow breathing, I look up, like a shadow she was gone. She'll tear through like a storm And bury you alone You'll sink down in that swamp You'll never see that sun again.

Eulogy (1903)

If I draped you in these flowers Could you smell anymore sweet I don't think it's even worth a try. I could lay right here for hours in the garden at your feet Until my clock tells me I'm out of time. Spring is blooming near the river where we always used to meet All the birds are calling as they fly. The water flows into the lake your daddy built in '83 A sacred place where we could always hide Oh oh I'd feel complete Oh oh if you'd marry me. I grew strong over the summers when I worked to buy a ring My calloused hands and blackened shirt were fine Digging down into the darkness you were always there with me Guiding me to come back out alive. Oh oh I'll be complete Oh oh when you marry me A bitter fall came to the valley where we'd always run and sing All the beauty in the world to find. I'll stay right here until we find a way to make you well again I won't give up until the end of time. Oh oh You complete me Oh oh please stay with me Another winter and I walked down to the river where we'd meet I brought the flowers that you loved in life I draped the flowers over you and took my spot right at your feet I'm not sure that I can even cry. Oh oh I'm incomplete Oh oh please wait for me

Romans 1:18

The pews are all empty, the Parish has gone home The church bells didn't ring, it's silent in these halls. A prayer is all you need, to make amends with God But can we heal this pain, now that you're really gone. But I still feel your rage, it's glaring back at me. So why's it feel so strange, that we'll never talk again

The message isn't done, your spirit floods my soul Kneeling at your cross, I'd swear I'm going home.

So take me as I am, or don't take me at all Dust to dust they say, but hell's being alone. Yeah I still feel that rage, piercing right through me So why can't I explain, this love that still remains. It remains and remains and remains and remains.

These Parts

I know that you're done Oh I've been there too These battles you've fought The ghosts in your room Does it seep through your skin? These parts you won't show The scars you have gained The parts of you lost. Oh baby I can't save your mind, but I can save your soul. I'll pick up these pieces it broke into, oh I'll build up These things take their toll, wear you down, and they make you feel small. But deep down we both know that you are much more than these parts. These parts. I wish I didn't know Oh I know how it feels What's it like to be broken In a way you can't mend These parts you won't show Oh these pieces laid bare. We'll just have to be gentle, And place each piece with care.

Valhalla (Get Along)

I know it's hard to ignore that deep feeling of emptiness Swelling that is ever ceasing But lend me your ear and I'll play you a tune That might help you curb all the existential blues. I want to know what the plan is I want to see what we should do I want to climb into Valhalla And get down to brass tacks at noon. A difference is all in the making And making is what we should do Let's rebuild that stone tower at Babel In spite of these devil's cheap thrills. And I can't even imagine why we can't all get along. We all fight like hell till we're broken We turn a blind eye till we're sore Kicking and screaming from ancients It's almost becoming a bore So let's take a chance on each other Let's stop funding these overseas wars Let's bake up some pies and have dinner We'll open our arms and our doors. And I can't even imagine why we can't just get along.
